APPOINTMENTS
- You will need to bring identification and your insurance card.
- Please bring all of your medication bottles (Prescription, Over-the-counter, and Vitamins) to each your appointments.
- Please arrive 30 minutes early for your first visit to our office, 15 minutes early for testing or procedures.
- Remember to check in advance with your insurance company regarding prior authorization and co-payment amounts for treatment by a specialist.
- If you have seen another physician or had testing for the same problem, please try and bring any pertinent medical records or testing results and films with you to your appointment.
TESTING INSTRUCTIONS
EEG:
- Be sure to wash your hair and remove any braids, barrettes, or ponytails.
- DO NOT use hair conditioner, styling products, oils, or lotions the day of the test.
- DO NOT consume any caffeinated drinks or chocolate 12 hours prior to the test.
- Be prepared to stay for up to 4 hours.
- You may take your regularly scheduled medications EXCEPT narcotics, sedatives, pain medications, or stimulants.
- For sleep deprived EEGs, you may not sleep more than 4 hours the night before the test.
- Please dress comfortably and remember to bring comfort items (Blanket, favorite toy, pacifier, bottle) if the patient is a small child.
- You may eat normal meals and take your normal medications, except as listed above.
EMG / Nerve Conduction Studies:
- Be sure to bathe or shower on the morning of the test. Make sure to scrub arms and legs well to remove any oils.
- DO NOT apply lotions or oils the day of the test.
ENG / EquiTest / Evoked Potential:
- DO NOT take any of the following medications the day of the test: sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antihistamines, narcotics of any kind, medications for dizziness or nausea, over-the-counter cold or allergy medications, or consume alcoholic beverages. Check with us about anxiety medications if you are using these daily.
- PLEASE take your regular medications for heart, blood pressure, diabetes and seizures.
- DO NOT eat, drink, or smoke 2 - 4 hours prior to the test. If you are diabetic or hypoglycemic, eat a light snack instead of skipping meals.
- PLEASE wear slacks to your appointment and bring your glasses with you.
- Plan to be there several hours.
Lumbar Puncture:
- You may need to make arrangements for someone to drive you home from your appointment.
- If you should develop a headache, you should lie completely flat. If the headache persists or becomes severe, please do not hesitate to call our office or speak with the answering service regarding your physical condition.
- Be sure to drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed.
MRI:
- PLEASE advise the nurse and the MRI technician prior to your MRI if you are claustrophobic, have any metal in your body, have a pacemaker or any other implanted mechanical device.
- Always double check with your insurance company regarding prior authorization and in-network benefits prior to your test.
